Heavy rain brought flash flooding to parts of Oʻahu’s North Shore, including our shop in Haleiwa. Located right along the Anahulu River, Blue Planet Haleiwa saw rising water levels that quickly flooded the lower deck, rental area and board room.
What started as a typical rainy day turned into a powerful reminder of how quickly conditions can change when heavy rain hits the North Shore.
Our shop sits directly along the river in Haleiwa, which is normally one of the things we love most about the location. It provides easy access for SUP, kayaking, and river tours.
During heavy storms, however, the river can rise quickly. As rainfall increased across the North Shore, the Anahulu River swelled and eventually overflowed its banks, sending water across our lower deck and into parts of the rental area.
Once the water receded, it left behind mud, debris, and scattered equipment around the shop. Boards, kayaks, and other gear had to be rinsed and reorganized, and parts of the lower deck needed cleaning and repair. T
The flooding also damaged the flooring in our board room, which meant we had to remove sections of the floor and start fresh. While it wasn’t something we planned on doing right now, we’re taking the opportunity to rebuild and improve the space.
We want to say mahalo to everyone who reached out, checked in, and helped during the cleanup. The North Shore community always shows up for each other after events like this, and we’re grateful for the support.
